Day 1: Arrive Siem Reap. Angkor Thom sightseeing. On arrival you will be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel. This afternoon, your guide will drive you to visit the monumental magnificence of Angkor Thom – last capital of the Khmers, with its Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King and the stunning Bayon temple. This 12th century masterpiece lies at the very centre of Angkor Thom and is an archaeological wonder of symmetry and grandeur. The exterior gallery walls have extensive bas-reliefs but the highlight is the “faces”, more than 200 of them, silent but with the famous half-smile playing on their lips. PJ de Beerski wrote of them; “godliness in the majesty and the size, mystery in the expression.” End your day with a romantic private tour in a Khmer traditional Gondola, with a light sunset cocktail as you ride from the South Gate of Angkor Thom to Prasat Chrung. Lunch included.
Day 2: Siem Reap. Angkor Wat & Ta Prohm sightseeing. This morning explore Angkor Wat, arguably the largest religious building in the world, with a volume of stone equaling that of the Cheops pyramid in Egypt. It is unlike all the other Khmer temples in that it faces west, and is inspired by 12th Century Hinduism. Its symmetrical towers are stylized on the modern Cambodian flag. Conceived by Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat took an estimated 30 years to build. It is generally believed to have been a funeral temple for the king. It has been occupied continuously by Buddhist monks and is well preserved. Intricate bas-reliefs surround Angkor Wat on four sides. Each tells a story but the most celebrated of these is the Churning of the Sea of Milk, which is located on the east wing, and your guide will explain the associated mystical tale. Continue to visit Ta Prohm, built in the 12th century the temple has been left largely in its natural state since its “re-discovery” by French explorers. Surrounded by jungle, its labyrinth of stone hallways is overgrown with the roots and limbs of massive banyan trees, which envelop the stone like tentacles and giant claws. Lunch at a local restaurant with the remainder of the afternoon at leisure. This evening enjoy a Khmer authentic dinner with traditional Apsara dance. Breakfast, lunch, & dinner included.
Day 3: Fly to Phnom Penh, drive to Kep. After a short flight to Phnom Penh, you will travel straight from the airport and head South to the city of Kep. The road to Kep on this three hour journey will give you a couple of opportunities to stop and visit temples and Pagodas and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Cambodian countryside. In the dry season, you will stop to visit the salt fields. Following lunch at a local restaurant, check in at your beach resort to enjoy an afternoon spa package, whenever you are ready to be pampered. Breakfast & lunch included.
Day 4: Kep. This morning, drive through local villages to visit the spectacular limestone caves of Kampong Trach. You may even have time to enjoy a refreshing swim in one of the caves before returning to your resort.
Afternoon at leisure, to enjoy the sandy beach or some water-based activities. For your last evening in Kep, celebrate the end of a magical holiday over dinner with a romantic set-up at the far end of the resort’s jetty Sailing Club. Breakfast, lunch, & dinner included.
Day 5: Return to Phnom Penh. After breakfast, drive from Kep back to Phnom Penh Airport for your onward flight. Breakfast included.
